MAYOR OF MOBILE TO WELCOME TRANSPORT SYMPOSIUM 17 DELEGATES
New York, NY, 14 September, 2007 – The International Forest Products Transport Association (IFPTA) and RISI announced today the addition of Mobile Mayor Samuel Jones to the distinguished panel of speakers for the Opening Session at Transport Symposium 17. Organized by the IFPTA and RISI, Transport Symposium is the Association’s biennial conference and exhibition and is scheduled for October 15 - 17, 2007 in Mobile, Alabama. Mayor Jones will welcome the Symposium’s delegates to the City of Mobile, helping to kick off the three-day international conference and exhibition. The Mayor is also expected to highlight the beginning of a new era for the city of Mobile, including efforts to attract new industry, improve infrastructure and enhance the area’s tourism base.
Mayor Jones will officially open Transport Symposium 17 on Monday, October 15, 2007 at 8:30 am CT. His remarks will be followed by Mr. John Day, CEO of RISI, Mr. Paul Doiron, President of the IFPTA, and Mr. Jim Lyons, CEO & Director of the Alabama State Port Authority. “We are thrilled Mayor Jones will welcome our delegates to Mobile,” said Mr. Doiron. “His reception of the Symposium will only reinforce the wonderful hospitality we have received from the entire city.”
Mayor Samuel Jones was elected to the serve the City of Mobile on September 13, 2005 and continues to receive strong support from the citizens and community. Mayor Jones has also been elected as President of the Association of County Commissioners of Alabama, serving as a member of the National Board of Directors of the National Association of Counties. Prior to his election, Mayor Jones has served on various Board of Directors, including the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Southwest Alabama and the Alabama State Port Authority. Mayor Jones is also a member of the Court of the Judiciary, the Board of Trustees of the University of South Alabama, and the Senior Bowl Committee.
Along with the presentation by Mayor Jones, the Transport Symposium conference program will also feature a keynote address on “How to Increase Your Competitive Advantage in a Global Environment” by Mr. Douglas Lipp, as well as seven (7) individual breakout sessions and nearly sixty (60) panelists and program moderators. The solutions - oriented program will explore the latest technologies and developments impacting the forest products logistics industry. Conference speakers represent industry leading organizations from around the world, including the American Association of Exporters & Importers, ArborGen, Choren Biomass, CN Rail, CSX Transportation, Forest City Trading Group, Klausner Trading, Norfolk Southern, Sappi Trading, Star Shipping, Union Pacific Railroad, U.S. Customs & Border Protection, Virginia Tech, and Weyerhaeuser...to name just a few.
